Our vision

PE in our primaries aims to develop a fun, high-quality curriculum that inspires all pupils to succeed and grow their abilities in physically demanding activities, competitive sports and helping them to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. We will provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way that supports their current and future health and fitness. Our children will have opportunities to compete in sports and other activities that build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. PE is an imperative element of our curriculum, which develops a need for healthy lifestyles, a balanced diet, a growth mindset, and the resilience to persevere with activities that may have felt too challenging at times. We are passionate about teaching children how to cooperate and collaborate with others and develop a life-long love of sport and physical activity. Children are taught to observe the conventions of fair play, honest competition and good sporting behaviour as individual participants, team members and spectators.

Performer In our lessons we support pupils by carefully breaking down the parts of each activity – from the fine movements and processes of unique actions to the strategies needed to overcome an opponent. We also provide opportunity to revisit and rehearse these skills and, through our assessment, help children see how they are improving.
Team Player Working in a team requires trust and we work hard to build relationships that will help pupils feel comfortable about performing across all sports and exercise activities. In addition, pupils work to support each other. They learn, they assess, compete, and work collectively.
Courageous Taking part in a sporting event requires courage – courage in facing an opponent but also courage in pushing themselves to achieve further.

Our curriculum

We follow the objectives of the National Curriculum in a progressive format. The children learn many different skills whilst developing their understanding of different sports. They learn to follow rules, gain respect and the understand competition. We provide a wide and varied PE curriculum with the children getting an insight into many different sports.

The children’s journey begins in Foundation Stage, where children start to develop the building blocks of physical education through both play-based and teacher led activities which enable children to improve their gross and fine-motor skills. As the children move into Key Stage One, PE units centre around ‘core skills’ such as co-ordination, locomotion and ball skills, which leads into small-sided games in the summer term. In Lower Key Stage 2, the children begin to apply the ‘core skills’ to different games and sporting situations, such as different invasion games, racket sports and dance. Finally, as they reach Upper Key Stage 2, their basic skills will be secure, with PE lessons having a heavier focus on applying tactical awareness.

Extra Curricular

We have a range of clubs on offer, which change every term. We attend many different friendly and competitive events throughout the academic year aimed at a variety of different age ranges. We encourage our children to articulate the sports they would like to see on our clubs list.
