Here at Wonder, we have created our own Wonder-ful Curriculum which is engaging, effective and serves as a comprehensive framework. In building an effective curriculum we consider conceptual prerequisites which refer to the essential knowledge, skills, or competencies that learners need to possess or acquire before engaging in specific curriculum content or activities.
These prerequisites serve as foundational building blocks that support pupils in comprehending and successfully engaging with new material. At the IoE we call these prerequisites “golden nuggets” in all our planning to highlight their value and importance in the curriculum planning process. They are immensely valuable as they lay the groundwork for pupils’ understanding and progress within a particular subject or discipline. Securing these “golden nuggets” ensures that learners have the necessary foundation to grasp and benefit from subsequent curriculum components.
