Early Careers Teaching Opportunities

 APPLY FOR our School Direct Initial Teacher Training Education (ITTE)

The Wonder Learning Partnership is delighted to be able to offer an Initial Teacher Training Education (ITTE) programme in partnership with Leeds Beckett University. The aim of the partnership is to take shared responsibility for high-quality ITTE and to provide student teachers with the best possible preparation for their chosen profession. The responsibility recognises that school staff in the Wonder Learning Partnership and staff in Leeds Beckett University have distinctive contributions, roles, and responsibilities that are essential for preparing you for your career as a teacher.

Your course is a hybrid, insofar as you will complete university days and assignments across the year, whilst also spending time in our schools. During this time, we also offer high quality Trust training in:

  • The Science of Learning
  • Classroom practice
  • Adaptive teaching
  • Behavioural management
  • Assessment
  • Professional development,
  • Subject immersion days
  • Setting high expectations

You will also receive support from your subject or phase specialist mentor to support you throughout your time with us. They will meet with you weekly and discuss your progress, feedback on your lessons, and set you focus points for and a link tutor from Leeds Beckett University,

How to become a teacher via the School Direct ITTE programme

Step1:

Before applying for our ITTE course you need to ensure that you enjoy working with children and that teaching is definitely your vocation in life. You can do this by having some experience of working (either paid/unpaid) with children. Many schools offer experience days, and you are able to book these at the Wonder Learning Partnership schools at various dates across the year or contact for krussell@WLP.education for information about our upcoming Back to School days. Alternatively, if you are planning on teaching a STEM subject or Modern Foreign Languages then please apply for our paid internship programme, details can be found on our vacancy page.

Step 2:

The ITTE programme is a Postgraduate course and applicants will need to have completed a degree or be due to complete their degree in 2023 in order to apply for this course. You also need to have achieved, a Grade C or above in mathematics and English and if you are looking to become a primary school teacher, you require a science qualification at grade C or above.

Once you are on the Department for Education website, please search for the Wonder Institute of Education to apply for one of our courses.

Step 3:

Applicants who meet the entry criteria will then be invited to attend an interview.

Step 4:

You will be notified whether you have been successful in securing a place within 7 days of your interview.

Funding

Funding is available to help you train to teach. You can apply for a:

  • tuition fee loan of up to £9,250 to cover your teacher training, so you do not need to pay course fees upfront.
  • maintenance loan of up to £12,667 to help with living costs.

You can still apply for a tuition fee and a maintenance loan if you already have a student loan, and regardless of whether you get a teaching bursary or scholarship.

You will only have to make loan repayments once you’re earning.

Paid Internship Programme

Information on Teaching Internship at

Woldgate School and Longcroft School 2023

We are delighted to have been awarded a contract with the Department of Education to run three week paid teaching internships in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish).

Your internship will not simply involve you sitting at the back of a classroom observing lessons. It is a hands of experience that is a once in a life time opportunity.

You will receive experience days, where you attend a primary school, shadow a teaching assistant, and have a subject immersion event, where you will travel to a local attraction for the day to plan an educational trip for pupils in your subject area before presenting this to your fellow interns. You will also receive CPD in the science of learning, how to observe a lesson, safeguarding, SEND and planning a lesson. Over the three weeks you will begin to teach small sections of a lesson and in the final week, you will teach a WHOLE lesson in your subject area.

  • Woldgate School, Pocklington, East Riding
  • Longcroft School, Beverley, East Riding

You can pick which school you would like to do your internship, however places are limited, so early applications are encouraged.

Payment

At the end of the placement, you will be paid £900.00. This will only be paid if you have attended all days. If you miss a day for any reason, a £60.00 deduction will be made for each day that you are not in school.

Dates

  • Internship 1: 12th June 2023 – 30th June 2023
  • Internship 2: 3rd July 2023 – 21st July 2023

 Eligibility

  • You must have a genuine interest in finding out more about teaching and have completed or be completing a degree in mathematics, physics, chemistry, or languages, or related degrees.
  • Post graduate applicants are not eligible unless the Masters is part of an undergraduate course.
  • You are not eligible for an Intern place if you already have a place on an ITT course in Sept 2023.
  • You are not eligible If you have already completed a get into teaching paid internship in a previous year.
