Setting Conditions for Effective Feedback -Primary and Secondary Phase - OPEN FOR BOOKINGS

Training Overview:

Research from the EEF shows that effective feedback can have a high impact on pupils’ progress and learning outcomes.

While teachers often focus on offering feedback after assessment has taken place, effective feedback requires teachers to establish the correct conditions in their classroom.

In this half-day course, we will consider the importance of activating prior knowledge, plus approaches to non-written formative assessment strategies and success criteria.

Training Aims:

1.  To provide teachers with the knowledge to establish effective feedback routines in their classrooms.

2. To provide strategies to support teachers plan lessons that set the conditions for effective feedback.

Intended Audience

Classroom practitioners, from KS2 to KS4.

Training Aims:

  1. To develop an awareness of what Cognitive Load Theory is and how it can impact on pupil learning.
  2. To learn some practical strategies that will help teachers to manage cognitive overload in their lessons, resources and the surrounding environment.

Responsive Teaching: what is responsive teaching and how can it be applied to teaching and learning?

Training Overview:

In this course we will explore the principles of responsive teaching, so that teachers can gain a deeper understanding of its effects on pupil learning and therefore an appreciation of its appropriate use. We will then look at how we can use it and what it looks like in the classroom with practical examples. This course is not intended to make teachers work harder but simply to consider working differently, to improve outcomes and reduce workload.

Training Aims:

1. To explore the evidence-based principles of responsive teaching and why we should use them.

2. To provide practical examples of when responsive teaching has been used and the outcomes.

3. To provide practical takeaways that teachers can experiment with in the classroom.

Intended Audience

Classroom practitioners, from KS2 to KS4.

Using the EEF Instructional Framework to Improve the Quality of Teaching and Learning

Training Overview:

When the EEF’s Metacognition and Self-Regulated guidance report was first published in 2018, it introduced a raft of new terms and new ideas. At its heart, it explored how metacognition and self-regulation was key to developing independent learners. Since then, research papers and educational advisers have spoken about metacognition as something you do rather than something that is inherent in teaching practice.

This course will explore how we can develop approaches to lesson planning that – at all stages – allow pupils to become independent learners who can think strategically and evaluate their own learning.

Training Aims:

1.    To understand why the attainment gap exists, and to reframe our approach from ‘attainment’ to ‘knowledge’.

2.    To explore teaching approaches aimed at creating a culture of high challenge for all.

Intended Audience

Classroom practitioners, from KS2 to KS4.
