Choosing to do my PGCE with Wonder has been a great decision for me. It has allowed me gain vast experience through my two very different placement schools quickly and with great support. My mentors at school have helped me adjust to working in a different school and guided me through my first weeks as a teacher. Both schools have allowed me to teach a wide variety of topics, sports, and age groups and I have been able to take over classes quickly and with minimal disruption which has been beneficial for the pupils.
I have had the opportunity and knowledge to deliver exam year groups by teaching GCSE PE, A Level PE and BTEC Sport, as well as core PE lessons to younger pupils. The Professional Development sessions and lectures that have been facilitated by Wonder and York St John University each Wednesday, have been helpful in providing me with information to enhance my teaching practise and given me more confidence to apply what I have learned to my placement settings. I have also seized opportunities provided by Wonder to enhance my subject knowledge and skills, which have included completing the FA Introduction to Coaching, an Introduction to First Aid in Football and the FA’s Safeguarding course.
Prior to training as a PE teacher, I worked in a school for a year as a Resident Assistant Sports Coach, this experience coupled with the feedback, and guidance I have received from my mentors, Wonder and York St John’s has allowed me to develop my confidence and I am excited by the prospect of securing my first post as a full time PE teacher in September 2025.
I am currently applying for jobs and look forward to using all I have experienced and learned to provide a safe, inclusive and ambitious learning environment for my pupils in September 2025.
