Miss Thompson

ITE Student
Miss Thompson Trust in a team of seasoned teaching professionals

Choosing to train with Wonder Learning Partnership was the best decision I made for myself. With amazing experts, supportive schools and intensive training sessions, my experience has been wholly enjoyable.

I first decided to complete my PGCE during my second year at university. While I wasn’t sure how well I could teach and I was nervous throughout the whole application process, I never once found myself giving up on my dream to make a difference with young people. Two years later, I know I made the right choice in challenging myself with this role. From the moment I first interviewed with WLP, I knew this trust was where I wanted to do my training. Their approachable nature and supportive school community was the perfect environment for my learning journey.

In my first placement I was lucky to be working with staff who knew the school and its pupils inside out. Their insight was invaluable, and their feedback was supportive and constructive, constantly pushing me to be challenged and to develop into an adaptive, effective and engaged English teacher.

During this placement I undertook the role of mentor in a scheme aimed at the bottom 20% of readers and found myself being inspired daily by pupils’ resilience with literacy. It became clear with each session I attended that the work I was doing was making a life changing impact.

This only increased during my second placement as I joined Woldgate School, their English department is an amazing group of experts who didn’t shy away from sharing their advice and anecdotes. It was in this placement I was able to refine my approach to teaching and begin to use my knowledge in a new and exciting environment.

Despite only being six months into teaching, I can already see the changes that I have undergone. My confidence and ability to teach, plus my understanding of my subject have improved drastically. I am always excited for a new day in school, finding each one different from the last, and I am eager to start my ECT and continue to learn from my fellow teachers and my pupils.
